Mavs Eliminate Clippers, Advance to Second Round
Doncic, Irving Combine for 58 Points in Game 7 Victory
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic scored 35 points and dished 10 assists, while Kyrie Irving added 23 points to lead the team to a 114-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series on Sunday.
The Mavericks tied the series at one game each with a 96-93 victory over the Clippers in Los Angeles on Friday. Doncic led the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Irving added 21 points.
In Sunday's game, the Mavericks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They led by as many as 20 points in the second half before the Clippers cut the deficit to 10 points with 3:06 remaining in the game.
But Doncic and Irving made sure there would be no comeback. Doncic hit a jumper, and Irving followed with a three-pointer to give the Mavericks a 10-point lead with 2:17 left in the game.
The Clippers got no closer than seven points the rest of the way, and the Mavericks advanced to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face the Phoenix Suns.
