Carlo Acutis, a Catholic Italian teenager who died in 2006, was beatified on Oct. 10, 2020. He is poised to become the Church's latest saint.
Acutis was born in London on May 3, 1991. His family moved to Italy when he was a young child. He was a bright and curious boy who loved computers and technology. He also had a deep love for the Eucharist and spent much of his free time helping others.
In 2004, Acutis was diagnosed with leukemia. He died on Oct. 12, 2006, at the age of 15. His funeral was attended by thousands of people, and he was quickly declared a Servant of God by the Catholic Church.
Acutis' cause for canonization was opened in 2013. In 2018, he was declared venerable by Pope Francis. In 2020, he was beatified after a miracle was attributed to his intercession.
Acutis is a role model for young people around the world. He showed that it is possible to live a holy life even in the midst of suffering. He is an inspiration to us all to use our talents and abilities to serve others and to grow closer to God.
